When kitten season begins, shelters and rescues struggle to keep up with the flood of the tiny and adorable. Sadly, many of these kittens are critically ill. What’s also heartbreaking is knowing that some animal shelters turn to euthanizing cats as a solution. But that doesn’t have to the be the case and For Forgotten Felines of Kihei, Hawaii, has recently shown one local shelter there are other solutions to kitten season that lead to forever homes rather than ending those lives before they’ve even had a chance.
For Forgotten Felines shared the tale of the 22 kittens that changed a local shelter’s mind about putting sick feral kittens to sleep. And if For Forgotten Felines can get through that many kittens with ringworm, they surely show proof positive anything can be accomplished with love, dedication, and patience. And, you are a big part of this mission too.
Feeding Kittens with Your Help
Groups like For Forgotten Felines depend on donations to keep operations going. Kittens eat a ton of food as their growing bodies demand a constant flow of calories and nutrition. Feeding those little food monsters can be expensive, but thanks to you, For Forgotten Felines and so many other shelters across the U.S. have the food they need to keep up with kitten tummies.
How, you ask?
It’s simple, because you shop with www.iHeartCats.com, you’re funding chances at forever kittens born in the wild might never get.
Every purchase you make donates money to rescues and shelters working hard to care for cats and kittens in need, all thanks to a partnership between www.iHeartCats.com and Greater Good Charities. This purpose-driven family of charities devotes their efforts to improving not only our lives, but the lives of animals too. One of the best ways to serve animals in need is by filling their food bowls and giving them the comfort of a full belly. And the Rescue Bank, a pet food distribution initiative developed by Greater Good Charities, has been keeping hungry bellies full for over a decade.
And those 22 kittens are so thankful for the Rescue Bank because their food donations played a big role in changing minds.
For Forgotten Felines explained, “Several groups of unwanted kittens were turned into our local shelter in all kinds of conditions.”
One thing they all had in common? Every single kitten had ringworm.
Changing Minds
Part of the protocol in this particular shelter involved putting kittens with ringworm to sleep. But the cat lovers of For Forgotten Felines and the foster coordinator of the shelter knew they could change minds.
“FFF has been working with the shelter to take and treat these kittens and cats using part of our recovery shed as an isolation area.”
The result? “It has been successful.”
So successful in fact, “They are now building their own ringworm isolation room and starting their own in-house program and no longer plan to euthanize. They will now treat and adopt out.”
“This is a huge step forward as they didn’t think it was possible until we showed them it could be done.”
Part of this amazing feat of rescue comes from the nutritious food The Rescue Bank delivers. But those food donations couldn’t happen without you. So, keep shopping to save feline lives!
