When a fosterer from Happy Paws Cat Rescue headed out late one night, they weren’t picking up one cat. They were about to welcome an entire eight-member family. Waiting for help was a mama cat with seven tiny kittens depending on her for absolutely everything. Seven kittens is a lot of babies for one little cat, but soon the whole family was safely tucked into a foster home where Mama could finally concentrate on the important stuff: eating, resting and keeping seven tiny bellies full.
Then the kittens started growing. And with seven babies learning how to be cats at exactly the same time, things were bound to get ridiculously cute.
Seven Babies Is a Whole Lot of Babies
Happy Paws Cat Rescue knew immediately that Mama needed just as much attention as her kittens. The rescue said she’d already had multiple litters, and another pregnancy, followed by nursing seven hungry babies, was taking a toll on her body.
Her caregivers began giving her nutritious, high-calorie food to help her regain weight while keeping up with the demands of her enormous little family. Once the kittens are old enough and no longer nursing, the rescue plans to have Mama spayed, so this will be her last litter.
For now, however, she has seven very demanding customers at the milk bar. Judging by how quickly those customers are growing, Mama is doing an incredible job.
Then 7 Tiny Faces Started Looking Back
At around a week and a half old, the kittens were already becoming more alert and interested in the strange new world around them. Instead of spending every moment sleeping in a tiny kitten pile, they were beginning to notice each other and attempt some very important kitten business.
Of course, their bodies hadn’t entirely caught up with their ambitions yet. The babies were starting to wobble around on little legs that seemed only vaguely aware of how walking was supposed to work.
At this age, getting from Point A to Point B can involve several sideways steps, an unexpected tumble, and possibly using a sibling as a bridge. Luckily, when there are seven kittens in one place, there’s almost always another kitten nearby to land on.
The Wobble Stage Has Officially Arrived
Just a couple of weeks after arriving in rescue, the kittens barely looked like the same fragile babies their foster family had welcomed. Their eyes were open, their legs were getting stronger, and seven individual personalities were beginning to emerge.
Happy Paws shared that the kittens were learning to play, explore their surroundings, and interact with each other. “Walking” was still a generous description for some of their adventures, since there was plenty of wobbling, falling over, and climbing directly on top of whichever sibling happened to be in the way.
For the moment, they’re tiny enough that their attempts at trouble mostly result in an adorable kitten heap. That peaceful era probably has an expiration date.
Seven Kittens Means Seven Times the Trouble
Happy Paws is already looking ahead to what happens when those wobbly legs become confident ones. Soon, seven kittens who currently struggle to walk in a straight line will discover that they can run, climb, and reach things their foster family would probably prefer they didn’t.
That’s when the real fun begins. One mischievous kitten can reorganize a room surprisingly quickly, so the possibilities presented by seven of them working simultaneously are almost impressive.
Their personalities are only starting to appear, which has already inspired an important question at the rescue: Which kitten is going to become the biggest troublemaker? With seven candidates currently practicing by climbing over one another, the competition looks fierce.
For Now, Nobody Is Going Anywhere
Unsurprisingly, seven tiny faces like these are likely to attract plenty of admirers. Happy Paws, however, isn’t accepting adoption inquiries for the kittens yet because they still have a lot of growing and developing to do.
That means the little family gets to stay focused on the things that matter right now. Mama can rebuild her strength while her babies eat, sleep, wobble, play, and slowly figure out how all four of their legs work.
Eventually, there will be forever homes to find and goodbyes for their foster family to make. For now, though, there are seven tiny kittens reaching new milestones together and one hardworking mama finally getting the support she deserves.
And somewhere in that pile of sleepy faces is almost certainly the kitten who will soon become the ringleader of all the chaos. The only problem is that right now, every single one of them looks suspiciously innocent.
