Cosmo’s ears had a noticeably flattened appearance, likely the result of untreated ear infections and frostbite during his time on the streets. Although no one knows exactly what he experienced before arriving at the shelter, his physical condition suggested that life had not always been gentle with him.
“While we don’t know his backstory, he appears to have lived a rough and tumble life,” Kate Kompas of Tri-County Humane Society told The Dodo.

“I don’t know if he knows he’s different, but he’s a cat, so he likely thinks he’s special anyway,” Kompas said.

“He’s definitely an independent cat who appreciates having boundaries, but he has a sweet, loving side,” Kompas said. “The way to his heart is definitely food, our volunteers report — if you want pets, he wants food in exchange.”
His fondness for food has become one of the ways volunteers connect with him. It also reveals a charming side of his personality, showing that even a cat who values independence can enjoy attention when it comes with something delicious.
For Cosmo, the ideal home would be a peaceful environment where he could feel secure without being pressured into constant interaction. A patient family willing to understand his personality and allow him to approach affection on his own terms would give him the best opportunity to thrive.
