Artist Margherita Grasso understands what life with cats is all about. In her various works, the Italian illustrator and graphic artist captures the essence of cats in colorful and emotional style. From her home in Milan, Italy, Grasso observes all the small details around to her craft her art. And taking what she sees, she translates those ideas into color and humor to produce heartwarming pieces.

With cats and children being great inspirations in her work, Grasso’s results are tender artworks that will lift your heart and fill it with joy. From cats napping with cute kids to felines enjoying reading with their people, you’ll enjoy her collection, and within these touching pieces you’re bound to find that one purrfect illustration that speaks of your relationship with cats!

The True Color of Cats

As artist Margherita Grasso explains of her inspirations, “Where there is a shadow, there’s a light too.”

In her works, this play of shadow and light comes together in colorful images of cats that will capture the attentions of feline fanciers and art lovers alike. Of this piece, Grasso writes, “My daughter was in her bedroom with our cat playing together, suddenly I’ve heard silence and I wondered what mess they had made…”

And here is one of the more “unusual ways to say “I love you!”

It’s not always cats and children in Grasso’s work. Sometimes, the ways of cats alone capture her imagination. Of this piece, she said, “Yesterday I saw two sparrows peck from the window while the cat looked at them hypnotized. This is the image that was born in my head.”

When her kitty didn’t feel well, “the drama of the visit to the vet” came to life. And as she wrote of her little feline patient, “The minute he’s in the carrier, he begins singing feline dirges and begging for mercy.”

Who doesn’t love Halloween? Grasso does and it inspired her to illustrate “the most awaited moment of Halloween: the candy count!!!”

When Grasso was feeling a bit of “Nostalgia” for days gone by, she treated fans to an homage to “spongy and soft headphones, tangled tape in the walkman, pencils that try to put it back in place and lots of music with a lot of background noise.”
