How to Make a Flower Crown for Your Cat

With a handful of fresh or silk flowers and some lush greens, you can make your cat their own crown.

If you choose the harder option of fresh flowers, be sure the flowers you choose are not toxic to cats. Roses, sunflowers, violets, daisies, asters, baby’s breath, and marigolds all make great choices for a flower crown that’s cat-safe. Most ferns make great and safe greenery choices too. Just know, your work will be more delicate if using live flowers.

Instructions on How to Make A Flower Crown for Your Cat

  1. Measure the diameter around your cat’s head using a loose, but secure fit. Be sure to include the ears in the measurement as crown will sit outside the ears.
  2. Cut a piece of wire a few inches longer than your cat’s head measurement and use the floral tape to secure overlapping ends.
  3. Cover the entire circlet of wire with a layer of floral tape.
  4. Your first layer should be made of soft greenery as it will be the part resting on your cat’s head. Piece-by-piece, place stem against wire and wrap with tape. Repeat this until you have a plush green base.
  5. Now, gather a selection of flowers into a small cluster. Tape the bouquet together by the stems. Make several bundles, but be sure to leave some single flowers for filling-in later.
  6. Secure each bundle to the crown by taping stems to wire. Take your time with placement, using a discerning eye as you go. Keep in mind, the wrapping might get trickier as you go because you’ll be working to secure flowers into place among already taped greenery.
  7. Once flower bundles are secured, fill-in with single blossoms anywhere the crown seems sparse.
  8. Trim away any excess flower stems and tape.
  9. Place the floral crown on your cat’s head and grab your camera. You’re about to take some magical cat pictures!
