Officer Anthony McDaniel was in Winter Springs, Florida when he got a call for help. A woman was frantic because a stray kitten had someone gotten itself stuck in the door panel of her Dodge truck. Fearing for the little furball, she kept trying to get it free, but each attempt failed.

A handful of deputies and animal services arrived, and they, too, struggled to free the kitten.

“It appeared that the kitten was caught in the hinge of the truck door and was not able to free himself. At first, nothing seemed to work. Every time they tried to move the door, even just a little, the tiny feline would get pinched,” reads the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.

That’s when Deputy McDaniel decided to try something different. They smoothed baby oil onto the kitten so he’s slide through the crevice more easily, then gently closed the truck door. And the plan worked! The kitten was able to slide out of the nook and was finally free.

The woman who discovered the kitten took it to the vet and hoped to keep it. But while the little one got a clean bill of health, the other felines that already lived at the woman’s home weren’t too eager to make a new friend. That’s when she posted that the little guy was in need of a forever home.

Officer McDaniel knew that it was meant to be, and had to make the lucky black kitten part of his family! They even came up with the perfect name: Dodge!

A big thanks to this deputy for his careful rescue and big heart! We know that Dodge has found the perfect forever family.
