Some families have trouble getting everyone to smile for a photograph. Chouchou and Miko’s dad has a slightly different problem: he has to keep his models from throwing paws. The Japanese cat dad has become an internet favorite for traveling to beautiful locations with his cats, Chouchou and Miko. He regularly poses with them among flowers and other scenic backdrops, usually wearing a huge smile while his feline companions look considerably less enthusiastic about the whole family photo situation.
One recent outing captured that contrast perfectly. Dad was ready for another adorable photograph, but Chouchou and Miko apparently had some unfinished business to settle first. Within moments, the peaceful portrait had turned into a miniature boxing match.
Chouchou and Miko Choose Violence
Chouchou and Miko were sitting together when the mood suddenly changed. Paws started flying as the cats swatted back and forth, neither appearing particularly interested in surrendering.

After returning home that afternoon, their owner reported that there were no more battles between the pair. Chouchou and Miko simply continued their day together, leaving the internet with photographic evidence of a sibling-style disagreement that was apparently over almost as quickly as it began.
Their Family Photos Rarely Go According to Plan
The occasional flying paw is only part of what has made Chouchou and Miko so entertaining to follow. Their owner regularly takes the cats to picturesque destinations around Japan, including seasonal flower displays, and puts an impressive amount of effort into capturing beautiful photographs with them.
The cats, however, have their own artistic vision.
While Dad grins happily at the camera, Chouchou and Miko frequently serve up serious expressions, look in completely different directions, or appear profoundly unconvinced that anyone needed another family portrait. On other occasions, putting the two cats together has resulted in another spontaneous round of feline sparring.
During a visit to Sera Kogen Farm in Hiroshima, for example, their owner hoped to photograph the family surrounded by sunflowers. Chouchou and Miko started swatting at each other while he held them, forcing him to change plans and photograph Chouchou on his shoulder before eventually getting more pictures of the pair together.
The result might not always be the perfectly coordinated family album their dad envisioned. Judging by the attention the unpredictable photographs have received online, however, Chouchou and Miko may understand social media better than anyone.
Meet Chouchou, the Rescue Cat Behind the Serious Face
Chouchou’s life with the family began long before Miko arrived. The white cat with the distinctive black tail was rescued on October 17, 2016, according to information shared through the family’s account.
Chouchou officially became a member of the family on January 30, 2021. Since then, the striking cat has become a regular companion on Dad’s adventures and a remarkably expressive participant in his photo sessions.
The family had previously shared life with another beloved cat named Wolf. Wolf lived for approximately 18 years and nine months before passing away on December 31, 2020, and the Instagram name @catwolf0314 preserves a connection to the cat who came before Chouchou and Miko.
That history makes the account more than a collection of funny cat photographs. Behind the grumpy expressions and flying paws is a cat dad who has spent years documenting life with the animals he loves.
Then Miko Joined the Family
Miko represents the younger generation of this traveling feline family. Born on September 6, 2024, Miko is considerably younger than Chouchou and brought an entirely new personality into the family’s adventures.
The age difference doesn’t prevent the cats from sharing plenty of experiences together. Photos show Chouchou and Miko traveling, posing among flowers, relaxing beside Dad, and occasionally sitting together so peacefully that nobody would suspect they had ever exchanged a single paw. Then another photo session begins, someone gets too close, and negotiations apparently have to start all over again.
That unpredictability has become part of the pair’s charm. Their dad can choose the destination, find the flowers, plan the photograph, and get everyone into position, but Chouchou and Miko retain final creative control.
Are Chouchou and Miko Really Fighting?
Seeing cats suddenly swat at each other can look alarming, but not every feline disagreement means two cats hate each other. Cats can engage in play fighting, brief social disputes, or swatting intended to tell another cat that they have crossed a boundary.
Body language can offer clues about what is happening. Cats who are playing may take turns chasing or wrestling and return to one another willingly, while a serious conflict can involve prolonged hissing or growling, flattened ears, puffed fur, intense staring, attempts to escape, or one cat persistently pursuing another.
Context matters too. Even cats who normally live comfortably together can occasionally become irritated with one another, particularly when they are excited, overstimulated, competing for space, or simply ready for the other cat to back off.
Chouchou and Miko’s ability to settle down and continue spending time together after their viral disagreement suggests that one dramatic moment doesn’t necessarily define their relationship. Sometimes, even feline family members need to make their opinions extremely clear.
