When Heidi, a New Yorker, decided to rescue four kittens, she never imagined the shocking discovery that awaited her during their first bath.
She filled a saucepan with warm, soapy water and carefully began washing each kitten, one by one. As she gently scrubbed, she noticed something unsettling: fleas started emerging and crawling across the tiny kittens’ faces.
As she parted their fur to get a closer look, the full extent of the infestation became painfully clear. The kittens’ bodies were covered in flea bites—hundreds of tiny, red welts dotted their delicate skin. Alarmed by what she saw, Heidi made sure to clean every inch of their affected skin as gently as possible.
Reflecting on the situation, Heidi couldn’t believe the severity of the flea infestation—it was the worst she’d ever encountered. Thankfully, these little ones had crossed paths with her just in time. Now, they no longer have to endure the misery of flea bites and can look forward to a brighter future.
The National Park Service has a plan to potentially euthanize up to 170 feral cats under the guise of nuisance control. Demand a policy that protects these cats!
