Newborn kittens are born deaf and blind, with their eyes closed and their ears folded down. During the first week or so, the babies need to stay near their mother to survive. The reason is because kitties cannot regulate their own body temperature so they need their mommy to keep them in a constant state of warmth, avoiding hypothermia. They are so sweet when they are this young but need to be watched after with extreme care.

You can see these little guys are just checking out the world for the first time, since all of their eyes are still closed and all they can do is clumsily pull themselves around. In a couple of weeks these kittens will be seeing and smelling everything like they should! How exciting this must be for this owner to watch these little guys grow up and go through the first stages of life.

Mommy cat’s presence is crucial to these kittens’ health and survival through the first few weeks, but they will be rambunctious, thriving and out of control by the time they hit week five!
