Franco has the sort of face that suggests he knows things. Maybe it’s the sleek black coat, the slightly crinkled ear, or the way the 4-year-old cat can sit silently in a window watching the neighborhood as though he’s gathering information for a meeting nobody else was invited to.
Whatever it is, the team at PAWS (Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society) has decided there’s really only one appropriate description for him. Franco is a “hunky house panther,” and he’s currently accepting applications for a human sidekick.

Franco Takes Neighborhood Watch Very Seriously
Franco has perfected a daily routine that requires just the right balance of important business and absolutely no business at all. According to PAWS, he’s often found perched in a sunny window, keeping tabs on birds and supervising whatever the humans happen to be doing.
Once his surveillance shift ends, Franco is perfectly happy to curl up beside someone for a nap. He enjoys pets, cuddles, and affection, but he doesn’t need his person hovering over him every second of the day.
Basically, Franco wants a relationship, not a clingy situationship. He’ll come over when it’s time for affection, but when he’s ready for a little independence, this house panther has places to be, windows to inspect, and probably a bird outside whose activities require further investigation.
The Crinkly Ear Only Adds to the Mystery
Franco didn’t always have such a comfortable life. PAWS says he was found as a stray and arrived in rough shape, with his time outdoors leaving behind one particularly distinctive souvenir: his crinkly ear.
Rather than hurting his leading-man looks, the ear gives Franco the appearance of a cat with an intriguing backstory. He looks a little like he should be sitting at the end of a dimly lit bar, saying he doesn’t talk about his past before quietly ordering a bowl of wet food.
Fortunately, Franco doesn’t have to worry about surviving outside anymore. PAWS gave him the medical care he needed, and these days, the shelter says he’s “feeling better than ever.”
There’s Just One Tiny Thing Missing
Actually, make that several tiny things because Franco received what PAWS jokingly calls a “full dental makeover.” The makeover involved removing all of his teeth, so underneath the mysterious house-panther exterior is a completely toothless little guy.

Don’t tell Franco this is supposed to interfere with his tough-guy image because it certainly hasn’t interfered with his enthusiasm for food. PAWS describes him as especially food-motivated, making snacks one of the quickest routes to his heart.
He currently thrives on a prebiotic/probiotic diet that helps keep his sensitive stomach happy. Apparently, having zero teeth hasn’t stopped Franco from appreciating a good meal, because this gentleman still has priorities.
Black Cats Deserve Their Turn in the Spotlight
Franco is also a proud member of the unofficial house-panther club, the affectionate nickname many cat lovers use for sleek black cats. Unfortunately, black cats have spent generations dealing with superstitions and myths that have absolutely nothing to do with the wonderful companions they can be.
Their dark coats can also make their expressions and features harder to capture in poorly lit shelter photos, meaning a little good lighting can go a long way toward showing off just how handsome cats like Franco really are. Once you can see those bright eyes, tiny expressions, and glossy coats, it’s easy to understand why so many black-cat families become devoted house-panther fans.
Franco certainly isn’t letting his coat color make him fade into the background. Between the crinkly ear, confident personality, and serious commitment to window surveillance, he’s doing an excellent job making himself memorable.
This House Panther Has Boundaries
For all the jokes about Franco’s mysterious persona, PAWS describes him as a sweet and curious cat who offers a pretty appealing combination of affection and independence. He loves attention without demanding it around the clock, which could make him a great match for someone who appreciates a cat with a life of his own.
Franco would likely be happiest with adults or older children who understand when a cat wants affection and when he’d prefer a little personal space. PAWS hasn’t seen him interact with other pets, so the organization recommends slow introductions if his future home includes another animal.
In return, his adopter gets a handsome little sidekick with a crinkly ear, a toothless grin, excellent bird-watching credentials, and enough confidence to entertain himself when his person is busy. He may look mysterious, but his requirements are actually pretty straightforward: respect his boundaries, provide a good window, and don’t forget the snacks.
Franco Is Looking for His Next Role

Franco’s stray days may have given him a few battle scars, but they didn’t take away his curiosity or his desire to be close to people. Now that he’s healthy and comfortable, the biggest thing missing from his routine is a permanent window where he can continue his extremely important neighborhood investigations.
Somewhere out there, there has to be a person looking for a ridiculously handsome, low-key sidekick who enjoys cuddles, snacks, naps, and a healthy amount of independence. Franco already has the mysterious backstory, leading-man looks, and house-panther swagger covered, so all he needs now is the happily-ever-after part.
