A few years ago, we first brought you the tale of Stevie, a blind cat who loved hiking with her dad, Patrick.

Sadly, we must update you with news of Stevie’s passing. Her dad posted the news on Instagram in June of 2020, sharing, “Goodnight Stevie. Life was such an adventure. RIP 2011 – 2020”

Patrick adopted Stevie from Cork Animal Care Society in Cork City, Ireland when the rescue put out a request for a patient parent who could help a blind cat thrive in life. Patrick knew he was meant to be the one to walk by Stevie’s side through life. Of his feline best friend, he said, “Her amazing tenacity and friendship changed my life forever.”

Best Friends Who Loved Adventuring Together

One of Stevie’s favorite things to do was hiking with her dad and the pair shared many a journey. Patrick trained the smart cat to walk on a leash and though it took some practice, Stevie became a pro. Her simple walks soon turned to adventure on rocky terrain and she even made a trip up Carrauntoohil, Ireland’s highest mountain.

The pair made the mountain trek to raise money for animals in need. As Patrick wrote on their GoFundMe page, “If we raise 1,000 Euro (1092 dollars) we will be able to help save the lives of so many amazing animals just like Stevie who need the care and attention they deserve.”

The fundraiser earned double their goal and to celebrate, Patrick and Stevie made a video to highlight their Carrauntoohil climb.

Even after Patrick had children and brought a house, Stevie remained his best buddy, helping him through all the journeys of life.

While Stevie may not have been able to see nature, she certainly felt its wonder in her soul. And her happiness while stomping the wild with Patrick was evident in her social media shares.
