Some animals enter our lives when we need them most, bringing comfort, strength, and unexpected joy. That was the case when Ciara met Roman, a senior cat whose body carried the marks of a painful past but whose spirit remained remarkably gentle. While visiting the Humane Society, she felt an immediate connection to the special needs feline. Roman had endured abuse and significant physical challenges, yet there was something in his eyes that spoke of resilience. His resilience has become a daily reminder that healing is possible, even after tremendous hardship.

Another important person in Roman’s journey is his foster mom, Jolene.
Before Roman found his forever home, Jolene cared for him and helped him begin his recovery. Her dedication gave him the stability and support he needed during a vulnerable chapter of his life.
Years later, she remains an important part of his world.
Jolene visits regularly, and Roman clearly remembers her. Watching the two reunite is a touching reminder of the lasting impact foster caregivers can have on the animals they help. Ciara openly credits Jolene’s early care with giving Roman the opportunity to enjoy the happy life he has today.
Roman’s story is about far more than survival. It is about the power of compassion, second chances, and the extraordinary bonds that can form between people and animals.
Despite his age and physical challenges, Roman continues to fill the lives of those around him with love. His journey proves that senior and handicapped pets have so much to offer. They may require extra care, but they often return that love in ways that are impossible to measure.
