Lady Soothed Scruffy Cat As She Tried To Spring Him From Shelter

| Published on April 19, 2024

During a routine visit to help cats at risk of euthanasia, rescuers from Cats of San Bernardino stumbled upon Prometheus, a cat whose plight was immediately apparent. Alone in his shelter cage, Prometheus presented with a visibly injured paw, his fur matted and scars indicating a difficult past. Recognizing the urgency of his situation, the dedicated rescuers decided to take immediate action.

Understanding the critical need for medical attention and a nurturing environment, they moved Prometheus from the shelter to a foster home. This transition was vital for Prometheus, not only to address his physical injuries but also to provide him with the warmth and care needed to heal both his body and spirit. In foster care, Prometheus would receive the necessary medical treatment for his paw, grooming to handle his matted fur, and the affection he needed to restore his trust in humans. This act of kindness from the rescuers marked the beginning of a new chapter in Prometheus’s life, filled with hope for a permanent home where he could thrive and feel loved.

Once in the care of his rescuers, they assessed Prometheus’s needs and discovered that his fur was severely matted. The first priority was to give him a haircut as soon as possible, transforming his appearance into a little lion. Next, it was time for Prometheus to undergo paw surgery. Thankfully, the surgery was a success, and his paw completely recovered.

With Prometheus on the mend, his story was shared on Instagram, which led to numerous adoption applications. When the rescuers spoke to a woman named Carrie, they knew they had found the perfect match for the deserving cat. Carrie and her husband immediately felt a connection with Prometheus and knew they needed him in their lives.

The bond between Prometheus and his new family was apparent from the start. He would groom and lick their dog, April, as a sign of affection, even though she wasn’t quite sure what to make of it. The family jokingly referred to Prometheus as a “cog,” a cat who thinks he’s a dog. His playful and loving nature quickly made him a beloved member of the household.

Prometheus also displayed a strong food motivation, likely stemming from his time in the shelter. He would anxiously wait by the automatic feeder, worried that he might not get to eat again. This behavior was difficult for his new family to witness, but they knew that with time and love, he would begin to feel secure.

Over time, Prometheus’s true personality emerged. He became a goofy, attention-seeking cat who loved to play and show affection. His family was overjoyed to see him sleeping comfortably and no longer on edge. Prometheus had finally found his forever home, filling a hole in the family’s hearts they never knew they had.

From Prometheus’s humble beginnings in a shelter with an injured paw to finding his perfect forever home, the cat’s journey is a heartwarming reminder of the impact we can have on the lives of animals in need. Thank you to Carrie and her husband for taking a chance on this wonderful little ‘lion.’
