A spooky-themed date quickly turned into something unexpectedly tender when Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman met two tiny animals looking for loving homes. The longtime friends arrived for a Dodo Dream Date dressed in black and carrying witch hats, a playful nod to their new movie, “Practical Magic 2.” But once 4-month-old kitten Pawla and 3-month-old puppy Tagliatelle appeared, the spooky atmosphere faded into cuddles, laughter, and an immediate connection neither actress seemed eager to leave behind.
Pawla, a black kitten who is part of a bonded pair, and Tagliatelle were more than ready to meet their famous dates. Within moments, Sandra and Nicole were holding, petting, and talking to the little animals as though they had known them much longer. For Sandra, meeting Pawla also offered an opportunity to talk about black shelter animals and the challenges they can sometimes face when waiting for homes.
“Black animals have a much harder time being adopted from the shelters,” Sandra said in a video for The Dodo. She explained that superstition can unfairly influence how people see them and shared that she has two black cats of her own, affectionately calling them her “house panthers.”
A Spooky Game Turns Sweet
Keeping with the magical theme, the group played a mystery hat game. Sandra and Nicole lifted witch hats to discover surprises hidden underneath, including treats, toys, and conversation starters.
One prompt led Sandra to share stories about three occasions when she believed she had encountered a ghost. Tagliatelle appeared a little uneasy during the spooky storytelling, prompting Sandra to wonder whether she had taken things too far for her tiny audience.
“How was that story? Was that too much?” she asked.
Fortunately, there were plenty of toys, treats, and comforting cuddles nearby. The puppy soon had something much less frightening to focus on as the actresses continued getting to know their furry companions.
The conversation naturally shifted toward Sandra and Nicole’s own animals. Both spoke warmly about their rescue pets, and Sandra admitted that she would be the one most likely to cancel plans simply to stay home with her animals. It was an easy confession to believe as she continued cuddling Pawla and Tagliatelle.
As the date continued, Sandra and Nicole also reflected on their friendship and the bond they have built while working together. Sandra described the importance of giving each other room and understanding while navigating the experience of telling a story together.
“We gave each other a lot of grace to navigate a journey of telling a story,” she said.

By the time the visit was ending, Sandra and Nicole were already thinking about what might happen next for their little companions. They asked whether the people who eventually adopt them could provide updates so they could watch Pawla and Tagliatelle grow and settle into their new lives.
“We want yearly update photos,” Sandra joked. “First day of school, you know, milestones.”
Their request made it clear just how quickly the animals had worked their way into their hearts. After an afternoon of games, treats, ghost stories, and cuddles, saying goodbye was harder than expected.
The actresses wished Pawla and Tagliatelle loving futures with wonderful families, but Sandra admitted that walking away did not mean they would simply forget about them.
“We will be checking in because we are now, unfortunately, a wee bit bonded,” she said.
