Tiny & Totally Dependent
Born with their eyes and ears closed, newborn kittens rely completely on their mother for warmth, nourishment, and protection. Most of their time is spent sleeping and growing.
2–4 Weeks
Eyes Open to the World
Their eyes begin to open, tiny ears perk up, and they start wobbling around on unsteady little legs. Curiosity begins to shine through!
4–8 Weeks
Playtime Begins
This is when kittens become energetic explorers. They learn important social skills, begin eating solid food, and spend their days climbing, pouncing, and playing with their siblings.
8–12 Weeks
Ready for Their Forever Home
By 8–12 weeks, kittens are fully weaned, more independent, and learning confidence every day. Around 12 weeks is the ideal time for them to join a loving forever family. ❤️

How does the Purrfect Start Program help give kittens their best chance?
This program is dedicated to giving newborn orphaned kittens a chance to survive. These tiny kittens require around-the-clock bottle feeding (approximately every 2 – 3 hours for the first few weeks) and specialized care that most shelters simply don’t have the resources to provide. Through this program, you can provide lifesaving supplies to cat rescues who are bottle feeding kittens.
Why can't shelters keep bottle baby kittens?
Many municipal shelters simply don’t have enough staff or foster homes to provide around-the-clock neonatal care. Bottle babies require feeding every few hours, even through the night, making them one of the most vulnerable populations entering shelters.
That’s why rescue organizations like Furry Friends LA are so important.
How often do bottle baby kittens need to eat?
Newborn kittens generally need to be fed every 2–3 hours, 24 hours a day.
Among other things, this means caregivers must wake up throughout the night to keep them alive.
What is involved with caring for bottle-fed kittens & how do the Care Packages help?
Kittens under four weeks of age cannot eat solid food and cannot survive without frequent feedings.
Bottle babies require:
- Kitten Milk Replacer (KMR)
- Specialized bottles/ syringes and Miracle Nipples
- Warm blankets and heating support
- Feeding every 2–3 hours (including overnight)
- Frequent weigh-ins to ensure they are gaining weight and thriving
It’s a 24-hour commitment. These care packs contain needed items and allow rescues and fosters to focus on saving lives instead of worrying about purchasing critical supplies.
What happened to these kittens?
This litter of six kittens was taken into a shelter when they were just one day old. Without a nursing mother and the intensive care they required, they were scheduled to be euthanized the very same day they were taken in if not adopted by the deadline. Thankfully, Furry Friends LA stepped in, giving them a second chance at life. They are caring for and nurturing these 6 precious kittens ensuring they do receive a Purrfect Start.
Sometimes, a bottle, a blanket, and a caring foster are all it takes to change the ending.
How old are the kittens now and when can they be adopted?
These kittens were born on July 14, 2026. For the first few weeks, they are completely dependent on human caregivers for food, warmth, stimulation, and medical monitoring.
Once they gain enough weight and are old enough (12 weeks for maximum vaccine immunity) they are eligible for adoption!
