For nearly two heartbreaking years, Diana Rabbit carried the pain of not knowing what happened to her beloved cats, Zeus and Hercules. The southeast Portland woman searched endlessly after the young cats disappeared from her yard in May 2024, leaving behind an empty home and countless unanswered questions. She posted flyers throughout the community, shared their story online, and held onto hope even as months turned into years. Every day without them felt heavier, but Diana refused to believe she would never see the fluffy brothers again. Then, just when hope seemed to be fading, an unexpected phone call changed everything.

When Her Cats Disappeared…
Diana feared someone might have taken them. Still, she refused to give up.
Day after day, she searched for answers. She posted flyers around her neighborhood and turned to online communities like Paw Boost and Nextdoor, hoping someone would recognize the fluffy brothers. Months passed with no sign of them, yet Diana kept believing there was still a chance.
Zeus and Hercules are part Maine Coon and part Ragdoll, making them especially striking cats with long fur and gentle personalities. Diana often wondered where they were sleeping, who might be caring for them, and whether they remembered the home they once knew.
A Phone Call She Never Expected
Nearly two years after the cats vanished, Diana finally received the call she had been waiting for.

An animal shelter in Los Angeles had scanned two cats brought into their care and discovered microchips linked to Diana’s contact information. Against all odds, Zeus and Hercules had been identified more than 900 miles away from home.
The news was overwhelming. After spending so much time fearing the worst, Diana suddenly learned her cats were alive, healthy, and waiting for her.
With help from a friend, she quickly made plans to travel to Los Angeles. On a Saturday, Diana boarded a flight filled with nerves, excitement, and disbelief.
When she finally reunited with Zeus and Hercules, the emotional moment erased years of heartbreak. The cats were safe, healthy, and back with the person who never stopped searching for them.
Even now, one mystery remains unsolved. No one knows exactly how the two cats ended up in Southern California after disappearing from Portland. Despite the unanswered questions, Diana is focused on what matters most: her cats are finally home.

The reunion also became a powerful reminder of the importance of microchipping pets and keeping contact information updated. Without those tiny chips, Diana may never have received the life-changing call that reunited her with Zeus and Hercules.
After two years apart, the family is together again, proving that hope can sometimes survive even the longest separation.
