Few things are more amusing than watching a cat express disappointment. Unlike people, cats rarely pretend to enjoy a situation they dislike, especially when it involves being separated from their favorite person. Their feelings often show through every glance, gesture, and dramatic reaction. That was certainly the case for Waffles, an orange tabby whose loyalty belongs to one human above all others. When circumstances forced him to spend five days with his dad instead, the outspoken feline made it abundantly clear that he considered the arrangement far from acceptable.
When his favorite person had to leave home for five days, Waffles suddenly found himself spending all his time with what his family jokingly calls his “spare human.” While he was well cared for and never truly alone, the temporary arrangement was not exactly met with enthusiasm.
To document the experience, Waffles’ mom later shared a series of clips on @thegoldenbreakfastclub, giving followers a front-row seat to the cat’s dramatic reaction. The result was a hilarious look at life through the eyes of a feline who seemed convinced he had been dealt a terrible injustice.
From the very beginning, Waffles appeared determined to make his feelings known. One clip shows his dad trying to focus on work at his computer while the orange tabby repeatedly interrupts him. Instead of allowing any attention to remain on the screen, Waffles swats at his hand as if reminding him that there are far more important priorities in the room.
Despite the occasional attitude, there were also moments that revealed a softer side. Waffles eventually climbed into his dad’s lap, settling down for pets and scratches. The scene suggested a certain level of trust and comfort, even if the cat seemed reluctant to fully admit it.
Orange Cat Ire
Still, Waffles worked hard to maintain his reputation for emotional independence. In another clip, his dad attempts to chat with him, only to be met with complete indifference. Rather than acknowledge the conversation, Waffles simply looks away, appearing entirely uninterested in whatever is being said.
Playtime proved equally challenging. Hoping to spark some excitement, his dad waved a toy snake in front of him. The effort received little more than a passing glance. Meanwhile, nearby Maple, the family’s cheerful Golden Retriever, enthusiastically embraced the opportunity for fun and happily played with a plush toy.
As the days passed, Waffles eventually joined Maple for some playful mischief around the house. The pair appeared to enjoy each other’s company, bringing a bit of energy and entertainment to the otherwise difficult week. Yet even during these lighter moments, Waffles remained selective about how much affection he was willing to accept from his temporary caretaker. One petting attempt earned a quick paw swipe, serving as another reminder that boundaries were still very much in place.
Everything changed the moment his favorite person returned home.
The final clips capture Waffles greeting his mom before immediately settling beside her for a cozy nap. His entire demeanor seemed to soften as he curled up in what the video describes as his favorite spot in the world. After days of tolerating the arrangement, he was finally reunited with the person he had clearly missed most.
Summing up the experience, Waffles’ mom joked in the caption that “Waffles survived, but he wasn’t happy about it!” Judging by the footage, the orange tabby made sure everyone knew exactly how he felt every step of the way.
