Animal shelters put their hearts into finding loving homes for every furry friend they care for. They go the extra mile to make sure each animal gets a chance at happiness.

One of the ways they connect pets with potential families is through adoption events. When Orange County Animal Services (OCAS) in Orlando, Florida, organized such an event, they knew exactly who should be in the spotlight.

Amid adorable puppies and small, hypoallergenic dogs, there was a special pup—their longest and oldest resident—whose biggest dream was to join a loving family. This amazing Pit Bull mix named Baby Girl came to the shelter after being rescued from a dangerous situation.

“[S]omeone watched a timid dog try and cross a busy interstate. They were able to stop the dog and get her inside their car, possibly saving her life,” OCAS wrote on Facebook.

After being saved, Baby Girl’s rescuer hurried her to the OCAS headquarters, where she received the warmest welcome ever.

Once she settled in, Baby Girl met the shelter’s vet team, who gave her a thorough check-up. Her tests showed she was a healthy 9-year-old, and she charmed everyone with her sweet nature.

“She is sweet and gentle with people and has shared her space with other dogs. We don’t know anything about her past life or how long she was a stray. But we do know one thing: [S]he deserves better than spending her senior years inside our kennels,” OCAS wrote on Facebook.

The dedicated staff worked hard to find her a loving home but decided that a foster family could help Baby Girl relax in the meantime. Luckily, one of their volunteers, Su Morrison, had fallen in love with Baby Girl and happily took her in.

Living in a real home made a world of difference for this lovable pup. Away from the loud noises of the kennel, Baby Girl blossomed, showing her foster family just how affectionate she truly was.

“Having Baby in our home … it’s a pleasure. The longer she stays, the more we see what an absolute goofball she is. She is such a happy girl,” Morrison wrote to OCAS, later shared on Facebook.

Even though she was comfortable with her foster family, Baby Girl still dreamed of finding her forever home. So when the adoption event came around, OCAS made sure she was front and center, hoping someone would finally notice her.

By the end of the event, fifty-eight of OCAS’s residents had found new homes. Sadly, Baby Girl returned to her foster home feeling more discouraged than ever.

“No one is lining up outside for hours for this sweet girl. No one is fighting for her. No one is begging to adopt her, and it’s heartbreaking,” OCAS wrote.

Just when it seemed all hope was lost, Baby Girl got the best news ever!

Morrison, her foster mom, was so smitten with Baby Girl that the thought of saying goodbye was too much to bear. To make sure they stayed together, Morrison decided to adopt her!

Now, Baby Girl is living her dream, spending her days with her favorite humans, going on long walks and enjoying car rides. She couldn’t be happier.
