During a freezing cold snowstorm in Cleveland, Ohio, a woman discovered a flimsy cardboard box on the side of the road… containing four kittens!

It’s hard to imagine someone being so cruel as to abandoning these babies at any time, but especially during inclement weather (the temperatures were down in the teens!). But luckily, they were found before any permanent damage was done.

The woman who stumbled upon the kittens called the police for help, and they turned to the caring folks at the Cleveland Animal Protective League (APL).

“Thankfully – we had no idea how long they had been outside – their eyes were a little runny, maybe from the cold, but they checked out okay,” said Sharon Harvey, President and CEO of the APL, in a story by KFSM News.

The quartet of kittens are about six weeks old and have been named after characters from the movie The Sandlot : Smalls, Squints, Repeat and Benny. They are being cared for by a foster family until they are big and strong enough to be adopted.

The APL urges anyone with information regarding the kittens’ abandonment to call the investigation hotline: (216) 377 – 1630.

We hope that the heartless person who left these babies to fend for themselves gets caught and prosecuted. Most importantly, we’re glad that these little sweethearts are safe!
