Rescued from a tough life in the wild, an old feral cat named Mason seemed beyond hope. He was miserable and kept his distance from everyone, making his caregivers worry he might never find happiness again. But then, something incredible happened that changed everything.

When Mason was first brought in, he was completely unhappy. His caretakers thought things couldn’t get any better—until a wonderful event took place. He met some kittens, and suddenly, love found its way back into his heart.

Mason was an elderly cat who had always lived outdoors. He called a big country farm home, sharing it with 60 other wild cats. He was content with his life there. But fate had other plans for him.

A developer bought the land where Mason lived, and all the cats had to be moved. The new owner said they could come back after construction was finished, but it was too risky for them to stay during the building work. He allowed a rescue group called TinyKittens to trap, neuter, and release the cats. Mason planned to return to the farm like his friends once the project was done. But for this old cat, things didn’t go as planned. TinyKittens found out that Mason was very sick and needed help just to stay alive.

The poor cat had a growth on his paw and was suffering from advanced kidney disease. To make matters worse, his tail was broken in several places. Mason was in bad shape, and his rescuers wanted to help him.

“Instead of euthanasia, we felt he deserved to live his sunset months in comfort, free from pain,” TinyKittens explained in their video. So they brought Mason into a home to experience life indoors.

Mason moved in with a staff member from TinyKittens who took great care of him. While he was now safe, he wasn’t happy. He would hiss at anyone who came near. After a lifetime in the wild, Mason saw humans more as threats than friends. Time passed, and he didn’t warm up. “We thought that was as good as it could get for this magnificent former feral,” shared TinyKittens, “and then we brought home some foster kittens and something remarkable happened.”

Another staff member had found a litter of kittens outside his house and decided to introduce them to Mason. The team was worried that the feral cat might harm the little ones. But then something unexpected happened.

Mason fell in love with these tiny kittens as if they were his own. He let them climb all over him, played around the house with them, and cuddled up next to them when they slept. He became their adoptive grandfather.

How did a woman in New Jersey accumulate 47 animals - which she then neglected horrendously - after she had already been found guilty of abuse against 99 animals in Pennsylvania? Sign the petition to ban her from ever owning or living with animals in the future!

The TinyKittens team was amazed. This cat—who had turned away from all human contact—was completely devoted to the kittens. He cared for them and taught them important cat skills. No one could believe that such a grumpy cat could be so full of love and kindness.

Since meeting his new family, Mason’s health has greatly improved. As he and the kittens grow together, they show the world that no heart is too closed off for love.
