Have you ever heard of the Cat Distribution System? If so, this story is for you! A man named Eric was driving home from work on a rainy day. What seemed like a routine commute turned into anything but! Eric received a surprise of a lifetime. While on his way back to his house, he saw a shadowy figure run in front of his car. He slammed on his brakes just in time. Suddenly, the shadowy figure came closer, and Eric saw that it was a cat braving the rainy weather.
Eric rolled down his window halfway and called out to the cat, imploring her to go back home. It was dreadful out, too cold for any animal to be roaming around. The cat, however, didn’t head the other way; she came closer. Suddenly, she was standing at his window with something in her mouth.
The cat was drenched and shivering and Eric felt bad for her, but that wasn’t the only emotion he was feeling. The cat had a tiny baby with her. She stood at the window, begging for Eric to let them in. Without a moment to think, the desperate mother leaped into the car through the window and placed her baby in the passenger seat.
She then perched on the dashboard, her gaze fixed on the road ahead, leading Eric down unfamiliar streets and narrow alleyways. Finally, she pawed at the windshield as they stopped in front of a dilapidated shed. The structure looked abandoned, its roof sagging under years of neglect. The cat leapt back into Eric’s lap, then disappeared through a crack in the shed’s door. Eric hesitated, rain pouring onto his windshield, before grabbing his flashlight and stepping out.
Inside, the air was heavy with the smell of mildew. The beam of his flashlight landed on the cat, now curled around three tiny kittens. Their faint cries echoed in the damp space. “You clever girl,” Eric whispered, his heart softening. He carefully placed the kittens into a box he’d retrieved from his car, wrapping them in an old towel. The mother cat climbed in beside her babies, nuzzling them with relief.
Back in the warmth of the car, the mother let out a soft trill of gratitude. Eric chuckled, glancing at the little family huddled together. “Looks like you’ve got a new home now,” he said with a smile, knowing this unexpected detour had changed all their lives.
