Imagine losing your best friend and your home all at once—that’s what happened to Sunny, a lovable two-year-old retriever mix. After his owner tragically passed away, Sunny found himself alone and confused in a shelter, waiting for someone to bring joy back into his life.

Sunny arrived at the Great Plains SPCA in Kansas on July 11, facing a world that had suddenly changed. “His entire world came crashing down when his owner was tragically killed, leaving him homeless,” the SPCA shared in a Facebook post.

Deeply cherished by his late owner, Sunny was “a very happy boy” who enjoyed a “rather sheltered life,” according to his adoption page. The sudden shift to shelter life was overwhelming for him after such a significant loss.

Over time, Sunny began to show his true, loving personality. His caregivers noticed his “cheerful and loving” nature and his innocent charm. He even spent some time with a foster family, who described him as a “fabulous dog, calm and well behaved.” Unfortunately, he had to return to the shelter when they discovered one of their children was allergic to dogs.

Now, more than 100 days since his arrival, Sunny is still hoping to find a new family to love. The SPCA wrote, “We are devoted to waiting however long it takes for Sunny to find his people, but it truly breaks our hearts to see him passed up time and time again.”

Sunny is house-trained and gets along well with other dogs. He would like to meet everyone in a potential new home to ensure a good fit and might do best with older children.

His adoption bio says, “I’m a big fan of outdoor adventures and will happily join you on walks around the neighborhood or even hikes. I’m young and athletic, and I’d like nothing more than being active and energetic by your side, or I also love soaking up the sun.”

“I will be a very devoted boy. I just need for a wonderful someone to give me a second chance at a new life.”

A heavily pregnant calico cat was abandoned in a plastic bin bag, left to die alone and in agony. Tragically, the cat went into labor before she passed, but none of her kittens survived. Sign this petition to urge authorities to investigate this heartless act!

It’s heartbreaking to think of dogs like Sunny waiting so long for a loving home after losing everything. Let’s hope that someone special comes along soon to give him the happy life he deserves. ❤️
