One evening, a cat owner named Alex was surprised when her beloved feline, Azula, started meowing more than usual. At first, Alex thought her cat was just being extra talkative, so she decided to capture the cute moment on video. However, it soon became clear that Azula wasn’t just meowing for attention — she had spotted something unusual in the room. Her gaze was fixed on the ceiling fan, and her meows were becoming more urgent by the second.

Curious, Alex followed Azula’s line of sight, and to her shock, she saw a bat hanging from the fan! The small, unexpected visitor had found its way into their home and settled in the light fixture. Alex managed to get a close-up shot of the little bat’s face, which was both fascinating and a bit unnerving. (Be warned, there’s some strong language in the video she shared!)

“Started recording Azula because I thought her meows were cute, then I saw what she was talking about,” Alex wrote in the video caption.

To give Azula a closer look at the bat she had been meowing about, Alex’s partner carefully lifted her up toward the fan. The cat seemed intrigued, but it was clear they needed to act. Even though the bat was cute, it was still a wild animal, and they had to find a way to safely remove it from their home.

The task of getting the bat out turned out to be easier than they thought. Armed with a plastic garbage bag, Alex’s partner slowly approached the bat, planning to catch it gently. But before they could, the startled bat took flight and, to everyone’s relief, flew right out the door on its own!

One concern when dealing with bats is the potential for rabies. To be on the safe side, Alex and everyone in the house got vaccinated.

“Just in time for Halloween,” Alex joked in her caption. “All of us have been vaccinated for rabies.”

The National Park Service has a plan to potentially euthanize up to 170 feral cats under the guise of nuisance control. Demand a policy that protects these cats!

It was quite an unexpected adventure, but thankfully, no one was harmed, including the bat. While bats usually aren’t dangerous, it’s always important to take precautions like getting vaccinated for rabies if you find one inside your home. In the end, everyone walked away from this experience safe and sound!
