Season ticket holder Craig Cromer and his wife, Kimberly, noticed the cat hanging above them and immediately untied a large U.S. flag they had attached nearby. Realizing the animal could fall at any moment, they stretched the flag open beneath the cat in hopes of breaking the impact.
“They were trying to grab it from above, and they couldn’t reach it, but they were scaring it downward,” Cromer told NBC Miami. “It hung there for a little while with its two front paws, then one paw, then I was like, ‘Oh, my goodness, it’s coming soon.'”
Seconds later, the exhausted cat finally lost its grip.
The stadium collectively gasped as the cat tumbled from the upper level. But instead of hitting the seats below, the animal landed safely in the outstretched flag held tightly by fans below.
Cheers instantly erupted throughout the stadium.
