Having a friend who knows how to comfort you when you’re upset or nervous is invaluable. Friends provide the support we need in tough times. For a dog named Joule, this friend is a cat named Kelvin, who always knows how to soothe her anxiety.

Joule, who struggled with anxiety when she was first adopted by Brenna Eckert, has made significant progress since then. Brenna recounted Joule’s early days to The Dodo: “Joule had a lot of anxiety when we first adopted her,” she said. “We worked one-on-one with a dog behaviorist to help work through some of her issues.”

Though Joule still faces anxiety challenges, she has improved significantly with the help of behaviorists and her newfound friend. Brenna affectionately describes Joule as a “velcro dog” who always needs to be close to her humans when they are home.

Soon after Joule joined Brenna’s household, an orange tabby cat named Kelvin was adopted. The two animals quickly became inseparable friends. “The animal shelters had given each of them a temporary name before we adopted them,” Brenna shared. “Kelvin’s shelter name was Socks and Joule’s shelter name was Sandals. How ironic that Socks and Sandals make such a great pair!”

Brenna was thrilled to see the bond between her cat and dog, but it wasn’t until she installed security cameras that she realized just how close they were. The footage revealed Kelvin comforting Joule throughout the day while Brenna was at work. “We noticed that Kelvin and Joule were laying on the couch together almost every day,” she said. “I moved the camera to get a closer view of the couch and was amazed to see that they weren’t just sharing the couch, but they were snuggling up against each other.”

When Brenna first shared this heartwarming video, she captioned it: “This happens literally every weekday for the full 8 hours we’re gone.” It’s clear that Kelvin not only comforts Joule but also enjoys the companionship himself. “Kelvin’s personality is very mellow and sweet,” Brenna explained. “He loves sleeping and being warm, both of which he gets by snuggling up to Joule during the day.”

Kelvin and Joule now have their own Instagram account, where their adorable snuggling moments are shared, each video more endearing than the last. Thanks to the security cameras, Brenna was able to capture and share these precious moments. “They only snuggle with each other like this when we are not around,” she explained. “If we are home, Joule wants to be with us, so she basically ignores the cat.”

This sweet video is a testament to Kelvin’s understanding and affection for his friend Joule, showcasing a beautiful example of interspecies friendship.
