10 Cat Breeds For The Active Home

| Published on February 15, 2015

While most cats live up to the stereotype of sleeping constantly except to eat or use the litter box, there are breeds of cats that are bit more lively. These are good choices if you want a cat that will play with you, be friendly to guests and won’t mind a kid gently grabbing at them.

#1 – Bengal

These beautiful cats are known for being active just like their wild ancestors. Whether it’s chasing a ball or jumping several feet up in the air at a feather, they will amuse and delight you every day.

#2 – Lykoi

If you want a breed that acts like a dog, consider the Lykoi, or “wolf cat.” They fetch, hunt and chase—preferring to be active rather than a lap cat. (www.TICA.org)

#3 – Khao Manee

This new breed is known for its love of playing fetch. It will greet every visitor at your party and entertain them as well. It’s the perfect cat for a socialite. (www.TICA.org)

#4 – Chausie

This breed is thought of as the best hunter of the cat breeds, which means lots of energy. They are an intelligent breed and not only will play fetch, but most have no problem walking on a harness. Chausies do not like to be left alone for long periods of time. (www.TICA.org)

Another “fetch-playing cat,” The Maine Coon will help you in whatever activity you are involved in. They may not jump as high as the Bengal, but they will definitely play with you and get along great with dogs and kids.
