You’re stranded on a deserted island. You can take one thing. What would it be? How about cats! Sound too good to be true? Well, far away from the bustle of a city, hidden away from the dangers of bikes, cars or large groups of people you will find this cat paradise. Aoshima Island, or “Cat Island” as it’s called by locals, in Japan is a real place that many cat lovers flock to each year. A whole island for cats? Count us in!

There are 15 people living on this island, most of which are older individuals, but they love their cat residents dearly.

All Aboard for Cat Island

These cats are all primarily well behaved, with the occasional squabble, but they love to roam around. They literally rule the land. Many people visit to experience this unique island and between the visitors and the 15 residents, these cats receive plenty of love and plenty of food!

With no real danger to them, they happily roam around and enjoy the scenery. It’s crazy to think that there are more cats than humans on this island, and you really have to see it to believe it, so check it out!

Wow! Such a cool place! We’re big supporters of spaying/neutering your pets, so while we don’t recommend creating your own Cat Island, we do think this particular situation is a unique one that has been around for decades. It probably wouldn’t work anywhere else in the world, but that’s what makes it so much more amazing! Definitely looks like it’s worth a visit. Cat Island…you just made the bucket list!
