A dog named Pudding has quickly captured the hearts of people online, and he didn’t need any flashy tricks to do so. His rise to fame is all thanks to his incredible act of kindness.
Pudding belongs to Ms. Fu, who lives in Weifang, Shandong Province, with her family. She shared the heartwarming moment on Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, where the story of her dog’s compassionate gesture toward a stray kitten first went viral.
The touching encounter began when Ms. Fu noticed Pudding grabbing a pork bun from his kennel and heading toward a little stray ginger kitten. At first, Ms. Fu wasn’t quite sure what to expect and started filming, thinking her dog might chase or fight with the cat. “I thought the dog would try to catch the cat or fight with it when it takes a bite of the bun,” she explained to The Paper, as reported by the UK’s Daily Mail. “I had no idea that what I soon captured on camera was really happening.”
But to her surprise, what unfolded was an unexpected act of kindness. Rather than chasing the cat, Pudding seemed to sense that the kitten needed help. He barked to grab the cat’s attention, and then, in a remarkable display of generosity, dropped the pork bun for the kitten and backed away to make the stray feel safe.
Ms. Fu explained how it all happened: “I caught the moment by chance. It happened in the courtyard outside our house. I was working downstairs that day when I heard our dog barking at the top of the steps. When I looked over, I saw it going to its kennel to fetch its meat bun, then it barked again. That’s when I noticed the cat at the top of the steps.”
Understanding the kitten’s nervousness, Pudding carefully kept his distance, allowing the kitten the space it needed to feel secure enough to approach the food. It’s an impressive level of thoughtfulness and intelligence on the part of the dog. “The cat was scared and wouldn’t come down the steps, so our dog stood back and kept its distance, allowing the cat to approach,” Ms. Fu added.
In the video, Pudding can be seen wagging his tail happily, clearly eager to share his meal with the feline newcomer. He even walks around, perhaps hoping to encourage the kitten to come closer. Naturally, the kitten is hesitant and unsure of whether to trust this sudden act of goodwill.
However, the tempting scent of the pork bun soon proved too much for the little cat to resist. After watching Pudding for a while, the stray kitten finally took a tentative step forward, grabbed a bite of the bun, and quickly darted back up the stairs, likely not wanting an audience while it ate. After all, who likes to be watched while eating?
Sadly, this seems to have been a disturbing pattern that must be addressed. To protect future animals and provide him with the support he needs, he must be banned from ever owning animals again and undergo mandatory counseling.
Ms. Fu shared that her family adopted Pudding about two years ago, and while she always knew her dog was special, she didn’t expect this kind of generosity toward a stray cat. “I was very touched by the moment, because our dog is a guard dog, and usually very protective of its food,” she said.
