Cats are often known for their independent nature, preferring to shower affection on just a select few.

When a striped tomcat appeared in Anastasia’s garden in Sheffield, England, she assumed he would be just another stray among the many that wandered her neighborhood. Since she was already in the habit of feeding stray cats, she simply put out some extra food for him and went about her day.

The next morning, the same cat returned. Although he kept his distance, he would come right up to her window and meow daily. “He was angry but funny at the same time,” Anastasia recalled. As he was the only stray that stayed in her garden overnight, she began giving him more food and attention, eventually naming him Tiger.

As the weather turned colder, Anastasia grew concerned about Tiger’s comfort. She decided to buy a small cat house, assembled it, and placed it near her window. She wasn’t sure if Tiger would use it, but her curiosity didn’t last long. Tiger quickly made the cozy house his home, and as time passed, he grew more comfortable with Anastasia being around.

“It took a lot of patience to earn his trust,” she explained. “I’d think to myself, ‘Come on, cat, you’ve got some communication issues!’ I suspect he might have been mistreated in the past.”

Soon, Anastasia and her neighbors decided to take Tiger to the vet to see if he had a microchip. Though Anastasia had already formed a close bond with the cat, her landlord didn’t allow pets, so the plan was to trap him and bring him to a shelter in hopes of finding him a permanent home. However, she quickly realized how much she had grown attached to Tiger and that letting him go would be harder than expected.

After visiting Tiger at his foster home and seeing how much he had progressed, Anastasia made the decision to approach her landlord. With a heartfelt plea and some persistence, she was eventually granted an exception to the no-pets rule.

A tiny kitten was dyed pink, then bathed in Windex and rubbing alcohol, causing hypothermia and shock. This disturbing case highlights a trend where acts of animal cruelty may intersect with untreated mental health issues. Demand authorities implement mandatory mental health counseling for individuals convicted of animal abuse.

“I realized that I was thinking about him every day and I really missed him,” Anastasia shared. “I kept calling the property management, and eventually, they confirmed I could adopt him.”

Today, Tiger happily lives with Anastasia, the person he seemingly chose as his own. It’s as though he knew from the start who he wanted to be his human, and he wasn’t going to stop until he made it happen.
