Rifki, a dignified and striking cat with a thick coat and intense gaze, roams the streets of Turkey. His presence demands attention, but for Rifki, simply being noticed isn’t enough. Shortly after Aynuse Ceylan moved into her new apartment, she met this confident feline in a way she never expected. One morning, as Ceylan prepared to leave for work, she discovered Rifki lounging on her car. When she attempted to shoo him away, Rifki didn’t budge; instead, he seemed insulted by her attempt to reclaim her vehicle.
That day, Ceylan had to call on the building’s security guard to move him, yet it became clear this was only the beginning of their encounters. Rifki, for reasons known only to him, had claimed her car as his new perch. Every morning, Rifki resumes his post on her vehicle, refusing to relinquish ‘his car’ without a fight. Ceylan jokingly calls him crazy and a bit of a ‘psychopath.’ She continuously pleads with him, explaining she is late for work.
But Rifki didn’t stop at the car. Soon, he learned exactly which apartment was hers. Now, if his stomach rumbles, he finds her doorstep and announces his hunger with persistent meows. Ceylan, of course, feeds him. How can she deny that cute face!?
Despite knowing that Rifki has a home elsewhere, she has come to accept his territorial habits. Every morning, he reappears, staunchly guarding the car. Yet, despite the regular inconvenience and his unbending sense of ownership, Ceylan has grown fond of her quirky neighbor.
“I’ve accepted Rifki in his psychotic state,” she amusingly told The Dodo. “It’s no longer a problem. He’s a free spirit.” Although his antics will forever delay her mornings, she can’t help but embrace the affection that’s grown between them. To experience Rifki’s antics, click ‘play’ below.
