Inside This Popeyes Box Was Another Type Of Nugget

Stray cats, particularly mother cats caring for their kittens, face countless hazards when living outdoors. Such was the case for a feline family found trapped and tangled in a fence. Thankfully, this cat and her babies were discovered just in time, leading to a swift rescue by a dedicated Brooklyn animal organization. Brooklyn Animal Action received an urgent call about a mother cat and her newborn kittens stuck behind a fence where the mother had given birth.

Recognizing the immediate danger, the organization quickly launched a rescue mission. Upon arrival, the rescuers were met with a heartbreaking scene: the tiny kittens were ensnared in the fence, unable to free themselves. The team knew they had to act fast to save the vulnerable family.

The rescuers carefully cut the fence to free the kittens, working with precision to avoid causing any harm. Susie, the foster carer involved in the rescue, shared that their first priority was to secure the mother cat. However, the terrified mother was too frightened to approach the rescuers.

Undeterred, the team cut additional holes in the fence, gently extracting the kittens one by one. Once the kittens were safe, they turned their attention back to the mother cat, patiently working to coax her out of hiding. After some time, they successfully managed to capture her and reunite the entire family. They soon realized the mother cat only had one eye.

With the family together, the rescuers devised a clever solution to keep the kittens warm. They found a Popeyes box nearby and placed the newborns inside, creating a makeshift shelter to protect them from the cold.

Once the rescue was complete, the family was brought to Susie’s home, where she continued to provide the necessary care. To everyone’s relief, the mother cat, later named Olive Oyl, proved to be incredibly friendly, which made her care much easier.

Despite her attentiveness, her kittens required supplemental feeding due to the harsh conditions they had endured while trapped. Olive Oyl herself was also in need of medical attention, as she was suffering from a severe cold. Nonetheless, she never stopped caring for her babies or displaying her gentle and loving nature.

Thanks to Susie’s dedicated care, Olive Oyl’s health began to improve rapidly. Reflecting on the experience, Susie said , “After a while, she got better, so it was really nice that I was the one being able to care for her, because she really deserves it.”

Four weeks after the dramatic rescue, the entire feline family was thriving. Olive Oyl watched proudly as her kittens played and explored their new environment. Despite having new toys and space to roam, the kittens continued to show a particular fondness for the Popeyes box that had kept them warm during their rescue.

As Susie noted, “Whether it’s climbing into it, whether it’s chasing each other through it, they absolutely still love playing with it.”

These poor kitties were rescued from an animal cruelty case where they were starved, locked in cages with inches of feces, and received no water or food. Now, these cats need your help!

Susie is overjoyed with the progress the kittens have made and is confident that they will make wonderful companions for their future families. She plans to put them up for adoption in pairs, as they have formed strong bonds with one another.

Olive Oyl, now a healthy adult cat, will also be seeking a new home. Although she is an adult cat with only one eye, Susie is hopeful that Olive Oyl will find the loving home she truly deserves after everything she has been through.
