Today’s inspiration comes from a very tired mama cat. This gorgeous white feline has her paws full, looking after six lively ginger kittens. Raising six kittens of any kind is a challenge, but ginger kittens? That’s a whole different story! There’s a popular joke that ginger cats all share just one brain cell, and watching this mama cat, it’s easy to see why she might agree with that!
You can see the exhaustion all over her face. It’s as if she’s questioning all her life choices up to this point. One person joked that six ginger kittens are the equivalent of twelve regular ones, and by the looks of it, they might be right. This isn’t an isolated struggle, though. Many animal parents go through similar moments, wondering how they got themselves into such a busy situation. Take, for instance, a Dalmatian with twelve pups. To that poor dog, it probably feels like wrangling 101 of them!
No matter the species, parenting is tough, whether there’s one baby, six, or even a dozen. In the video below, there’s an exhausted bird, a Laysan Albatross, struggling to keep her eyes open as she warms her chick. When she’s not tending to her little one, she’s off searching for food to keep it well-fed.
Then, we have possums—the only marsupial native to the United States. When their babies, or joeys, outgrow the mother’s pouch, they cling to her back for a ride. These moms usually carry around six to nine joeys at a time. If you ever spot a possum in your yard, try to be kind. They help us out by eating up to 500 ticks, spiders, and other bugs each day, and they can’t even carry rabies. They’re truly our friends.
When parents, whether animal or human, reach that level of exhaustion that feels like a whirlwind, they often slip into autopilot mode to get through the day.
