A cat at a Lancaster County rescue has gone from overlooked to indispensable, though not in the usual way. Despite being up for adoption, this feisty feline didn’t attract any interest. However, he has now earned a different role: “Office Manager.”
The cat in question is Rodeo, a 6-year-old known for his surly personality. According to staff at ORCA, he’s often described as “unadoptable.” One shelter worker explained, “He always has an attitude. We had him up for adoption, but no one ever applied for him.”
Rodeo’s past isn’t a happy one. The shelter was initially told he had been hit by a car, but after further examination, the vet at ORCA believed his injuries, including five broken ribs, were more likely the result of being kicked. He has been living at the shelter for the past two to three years, recovering and making his presence known.
Instead of pushing for adoption, ORCA decided to give Rodeo a permanent position at the shelter—he’s now the “Office Manager.” His job? Keeping a close eye on everyone. “He pretty much runs the place. He inspects everyone who walks through the door, and his attitude has become something we’ve all grown to love,” said the shelter staff.
Rodeo may not have found a traditional home, but he’s made himself irreplaceable at ORCA, with a unique role that perfectly matches his personality.
