Billy is a rescue dog who made quite a journey from Texas to his new forever home in Vancouver, Canada. His new family has been teaching him to communicate using interactive buttons, and Billy has quickly shown his enthusiasm for two particular words: “hungry” and “music.” It’s no surprise that “hungry” is a top pick – after all, he’s a dog, and dogs are famously food lovers. But it’s his unique love for music that really sets Billy apart.

Billy has a clear preference when it comes to his music taste. He’s not interested in just any tunes from the radio; he has an ear for classical and orchestral music. Even more interestingly, he insists on experiencing his music live, all the time! His favorite musician is none other than his mom, who regularly plays classical pieces on the piano just for him. When he wants her to play, Billy has his own way of asking: he taps on the piano bench or paws near the pedals. If that doesn’t get her attention, he heads over to his word board and presses the button for “music.”

Billy’s family has taken his love for live performances seriously. They occasionally invite a local string quartet over to play for him, introducing him to new instruments. The first time Billy heard the sound of a cello, he was a bit startled, but he quickly adjusted and enjoyed the new experience. To make him feel extra special, they once dressed him up in a puppy tuxedo and took him to a rehearsal with the Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra. Unsurprisingly, Billy had the time of his life!

Sadly, this seems to have been a disturbing pattern that must be addressed. To protect future animals and provide him with the support he needs, he must be banned from ever owning animals again and undergo mandatory counseling.

Though he’s a mix of several breeds – German shepherd, husky, chow chow, Australian shepherd, and pittie – no one can quite figure out where his passion for music comes from. Despite attempts to teach him piano, Billy would much rather let his mom take the lead. For him, there’s nothing better than a live concert, with his family by his side.
