In the heart of Udaipur, India, a passionate team is making a significant difference for animals in need. Animal Aid Unlimited, a local rescue organization, has been a lifeline for numerous stray animals without anyone to care for them. One of their remarkable rescues took place in February 2019, when they saved a severely injured puppy that urgently required medical help.
The team received a distress call about a hurt puppy lying on a street corner. When they arrived, they found the puppy next to his mother, who was visibly upset and calling for assistance.
The rescuers carefully approached the mother dog and her pup, showing her that they intended to help. “She didn’t stop trying desperately to communicate as we gently lifted her puppy who had two deep wounds and placed him in the ambulance,” Animal Aid Unlimited wrote on YouTube. Slowly, the mother dog understood that the rescuers were there to help and allowed them to handle her injured puppy.
It was clear the puppy needed immediate veterinary care, so the team brought him into their van. They couldn’t take the mother dog with them because she had four other puppies to take care of. “We would try our best to save her sweetheart and bring him home, and how we wished and hoped she would somehow understand,” Animal Aid Unlimited wrote.
At their shelter, the rescuers quickly took the puppy to their vet. The vet stitched up the puppy’s wounds and cleaned him thoroughly. Throughout the procedure, the puppy remained calm and still. The rescuers decided to name him Toggle.
In the days following his surgery, Toggle had trouble walking, and the rescuers were concerned that his nerve damage might be permanent. However, Toggle was determined and slowly began to learn how to walk again. Once he fully recovered, the rescuers returned him to his family. Although they were sad to see the sweet puppy go, they knew he belonged with his parents and siblings.
Animal Aid Unlimited recorded the heartfelt reunion between Toggle and his mother. Both dogs were overjoyed to see each other! The rescue group plans to keep an eye on this happy family and intends to spay the mother dog once her puppies are older. They are sure that Toggle will be happy to visit his rescuers again in the future.
