It’s always astonishing to hear the ways some animals are mistreated, but it’s comforting to know that many of these abandoned creatures eventually find themselves in caring hands.

A recent incident highlighted this when a tiny kitten was discovered in an unexpected place—a post office mailbox. Thanks to the quick actions of postal employees, this little feline was given the care and attention it desperately needed.

According to a Facebook post from the Fayette Regional Humane Society, the 10-week-old kitten was pushed through the slot of a mailbox at a post office in Clarksburg, Ohio. Although frightened, the kitten was unharmed by the ordeal. The discovery left everyone at the post office in shock. “I’m sure it was a bit of a shock to hear meowing coming from the mailbox,” said Chief Humane Agent Brad Adams, who was called to the scene by a deputy from the Ross County Sheriff’s Office. “I’ve seen kittens stuck in many places, but this was new for me!”

The kitten has since been named “Special Delivery,” a fitting name considering the circumstances of its discovery. A postal worker kept an eye on the little one until the humane agent arrived. Though the situation was sad, Special Delivery is now getting plenty of love and care.

“We can only imagine how scared he must have been, trapped alone in that dark mailbox,” Adams continued. “But Special Delivery has a bright future ahead. He already meows for attention and wants to be picked up and cuddled by everyone who passes by.”

It’s hard to fathom how anyone could put a kitten through such an ordeal, but Special Delivery is now safe and sound. The Humane Society has announced that he will be available for adoption in the coming weeks.

“We are so fortunate that Special Delivery was found in time,” said Dr. Lee Schrader, the executive director, in the Facebook post. “He was our most precious special delivery. And just as a reminder, if you find a kitten, please call your nearest shelter for advice – kittens can’t be mailed!”
