It’s truly astounding the ways in which people abandon animals, yet, fortunately, many of these neglected creatures find their way to caring individuals.
Recently, a cat was astonishingly discovered inside a post office mailbox. Thankfully, the staff there made sure to care for this “special delivery.”
The Fayette Regional Humane Society shared on Facebook that a 10-week-old kitten was found shoved through the slot of a mailbox at a Clarksburg, Ohio post office. While frightened, the cat was unharmed, and the incident caught everyone off guard. “I’m sure it was a bit of a shock to hear meowing coming from the mailbox,” said Chief Humane Agent Brad Adams, who responded to the call after a Ross County Sheriff’s Office deputy alerted him. “I’ve seen kittens stuck in many places, but this was new for me!”
The kitten, now aptly named “Special Delivery,” was looked after by a postal worker until the humane agent arrived. Despite the unfortunate situation, Special Delivery is now receiving lots of love and care.
“We can only imagine how scared he must have been, trapped alone in that dark mailbox,” Adams noted. “But Special Delivery has a bright future ahead. He already meows for attention and wants to be picked up and cuddled by everyone who passes by.”
It’s difficult to fathom why anyone would place a kitten through a mail slot, but Special Delivery is now safe and sound. The Humane Society has announced that he will be available for adoption in the coming weeks.
“We are so fortunate that Special Delivery was found in time,” executive director Dr. Lee Schrader stated in the Facebook post. “He was our most precious special delivery. And, just as a reminder, if you find a kitten, please call your nearest shelter for advice – kittens can’t be mailed!”
