The loss of a pet is always tragic, both for humans and other furry members of the family.

When ginger brothers Harley and Davidson were adopted into their new home, they stuck by each others’ side and followed their human around together.

“Meet Harley and Davidson (yawning),”  wrote on Imgur.

“They were brothers I adopted from our local humane society,” she explained.

“They were inseparable and my little shadows.”

Like most cats, they enjoyed their naps and were “always snuggled together in their hammock.”

But when the brothers were just over a year old, tragedy struck. Davidson fell ill and was taken to the vet, where answers did not come easily. After “endless tests” and seeing multiple specialists, they finally had a diagnosis: Harley had Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP).

The disease is rare, but sadly, WebMD explains that 95% of the cats who contract it pass away. Unfortunately, Davidson was one of them.

Poor Harley did not adjust well to his brother being gone.

“Harley was distraught and would cry in the middle of the night for months after,” iwanttopetalltheanimals wrote. “For the longest time it was just Harley and [me].”

Meanwhile, the poster’s boyfriend adopted a tiny kitten who was being fostered after she was found in a bush with her siblings.

“My boyfriend fell for her cute tortie-tude immediately,” the poster wrote.

“A few months later I moved to his town and we got an apartment together. We were very worried about Harley and Lilo meeting.”

“But everything worked out. Lilo has learned to be less of a tiny terror and more of a cuddly derp like her brother Harley.”

“They follow us everywhere, sleep with us at night and even do tricks for treats such as sit and stand!” she said.

Now, the two like to spy on their humans together, and just hang out in each others’ company!

We’re so glad that Harley and Lilo found companionship in each other. Although she will never replace Davidson, Lilo is able to lift Harley’s spirits in her own special way!
