While the saying “fighting like cats and dogs” suggests that these animals are natural enemies, many pet owners know that cats and dogs can actually form strong friendships. They often support each other, especially in tricky situations. A recent event perfectly illustrated this bond when a brave cat protected her dog sister from two coyotes.
Lane Dyer from Edmond, Oklahoma, has two beloved pets: Oakley, a small white Havanese dog who is six years old, and Binx, a black cat who became part of the family as a stray when she was just two months old, according to KFOR.
Dyer shared with the news outlet that Oakley and Binx were “polar opposites,” yet they got along wonderfully, acting much like family members. This strong connection was put to the test recently when one of them found themselves in grave danger.
On November 30, Oakley was let outside into the yard to go to the bathroom. Suddenly, a coyote appeared and launched an attack on the little dog. Oakley struggled against the wild animal but was quickly overpowered. Just when it seemed like Oakley was in serious trouble, a second coyote arrived, making the situation even more dire.
In a surprising turn of events, Binx became an unexpected hero. She sprang towards the coyotes, frightening them away and making them flee from their attack. Unfortunately, Oakley was left badly hurt from the encounter, with reports indicating she was “gushing blood” from her chest and side.
The Dyers acted quickly, rushing Oakley to a nearby veterinary hospital. Initially, the vets feared they might need to amputate Oakley’s leg, but fortunately, the limb was saved.
As Oakley began to recover, the owners reviewed security footage and saw Binx’s courageous actions that saved her dog sibling’s life. Lane Dyer described the rescue as “the craziest thing ever” and expressed immense pride in Binx for protecting Oakley.
A heavily pregnant calico cat was abandoned in a plastic bin bag, left to die alone and in agony. Tragically, the cat went into labor before she passed, but none of her kittens survived. Sign this petition to urge authorities to investigate this heartless act!
“I was kind of inspired by it, quite frankly,” Dyer told KFOR. “It was inspiring to see just our little outdoor cat just jump at two coyotes that were attacking this little dog who she loves and run them off.”
Thanks to Binx’s heroic efforts, Oakley is now safe and on the path to full recovery. The Dyers are incredibly grateful to their brave cat for taking on the wild coyotes and saving the day.
