For those who have had to say goodbye to their cat, know the heartache that’s involved. However, most would agree that they wouldn’t trade the wonderful memories and years together for anything, even the tears. As cats age and their bodies slow down, it’s natural to worry about the end. One thing is for certain: we do not want our furry friends to suffer just so we can spend more days together. For one cat parent, he understood this journey all too well. Reddit user abernha3 shared a poignant moment with his beloved cat as they made their final journey together.

The cat, Little Andrew, had been the man’s faithful companion for a very long time. At 15 1/2 years old, Little Andrew blessed his family with tons of love and affection. But as he aged, time caught up with him, and his body began to shut down. Faced with health issues, body weakness, and pain, his dad made the courageous choice to put him down and spare any further suffering.

It broke his dad’s heart, but he knew it was the right thing. As Andrew and his owner headed to the vet, Andrew placed his paw on his dad, assuring him that everything would be okay. The cat could obviously sense his dad’s distress and wanted nothing more but to alleviate his pain. The gorgeous Russian Blue with a heart of gold thought about his human over everything. And this is why cats are so meowing special.

The National Park Service has a plan to potentially euthanize up to 170 feral cats under the guise of nuisance control. Demand a policy that protects these cats!

The photo reached the public and commenters had so much to say! One wrote, “It’s amazing how they can tell when that final vet trip comes. Mine knew and was at peace about it like yours was.” When Andrew’s human said goodbye to his cat, he was comforted by the fact that his forever friend would remain in his heart for the rest of his life.

He held our hands on his last trip to the vet. Little Andrew was much stronger than his mom and I.
