Introducing the KÄT, the world’s very first cat-friendly sofa that’s perfect for humans, too!

As cat owners, sometimes choosing the right furniture for our home can be a bit tricky. We may have a desire to have something that we want, but it may not be the most practical choice in a home with cats. Sadly, many cats may have their way with sharpening their claws on our sofas, and ruin our furniture quickly.

Well, the Swedish furniture giant, IKEA, has come up with a solution. This past January, after a year of study of the way people live with their pets, IKEA unveiled the first ever sofa/cat scratcher hybrid designed specifically for cat owners and their pets. This pet-friendly sofa, appropriately named the KÄT, is made solely out of cardboard from trees found in northern Sweden, with each tree source carefully selected. The cushions are equipped for human comfort, but all else on the couch is geared towards the feline kind, even with a unique base made entirely from corrugated cardboard.

IKEA has made the KÄT available in Japan, and is set to debut in stores in the U.S. this summer. Finally, you won’t have to worry about your cat sharpening their claws on your furniture, because now it’s okay thanks to the KÄT!
