On a chilly day in 2015 a petite tabby and white cat strutted proudly into EMS Station 57 of the New York Fire Department in Brooklyn and decided to claim it as her own.

She was happy to enjoy the warm, cozy napping spots and cans of cat food the station and its employees provided, but she made one thing very clear: she was not ready to be touched.

No, you cant touch me. Dont even try.

With patience, perseverance, and lots of treats, the kitty slowly began to trust her new FDNY servants.

When it came to giving their new mascot a name, the team reluctantly settled on Killer.

“They call her Killer because she took care of our mouse problem when she moved in,” a representative for Station 57 said. “We were having a contest to get her a nicer name but then she started bringing home rats.”

And so, the name Killer stuck. But these days, the sweet tabby is anything but a killer – at least when it comes to her uniformed housemates.

Killer enjoys sharpening her claws and rolling around on the rough-textured mat outside the captain’s door…

Being brushed by her handmaidens and houseboys…

Cat-spreading across her coworkers’ chairs…

And above all, eating!

In May of 2015, Killer’s friends at Station 57 started an Instagram page to share her exploits with the world. The posts are written from her royal highness’ point of view – full of sass and cat-itude!

I don’t beg for food. I just sit patiently and wait for you to do the right thing. #ifimeowitsjustsoyounoticeimherewaiting #notbegging #waiting #sitting #kitty #cat #feedingtime #snackswilldo #cats #catsofinstagram #stationcat

She currently has more than 16,000 followers, joining the ranks of several other New York firehouse kitties that have become Instagram-famous.
