Okay, fair warning, this cat lover cried a lot upon hearing this tale…

So, if you’re soft for cats in any way, hearing about this kitty and the birthday party nobody came to is going to make you weepy.

Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

Sweet Monique

Monique is a sweet tabby girl and she recently celebrated her second birthday. And since she’s been with the Battersea Dogs & Cats Home for more than 120 days, staff and volunteers have grown quite attached to the affectionate cat.

“Monique is a really sweet and affectionate young cat,”  said Nikki Cummins, a communications officer with Battersea. “When she first arrived at Battersea, she was a little shy and took time to come out of her shell but once she got to know the people around her, her personality shone through and she’s always happy to see us.”

Though a darling, Monique is positive for feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV). Because of this, finding her forever home has been hard. FIV can be managed easily, meaning afflicted cats can live full and rich lives. But cats considered ill or special needs often go overlooked. And staff at Battersea are quite aware of this fact.

So, they wanted to do something to help get Monique adopted.

Time to Party

Her birthday falls on Valentine’s Day and to celebrate, a party was in order!

“What better time for people to consider bringing extra love into their life than Valentine’s Day? We get a lot of visitors to our cattery, many of which are considering adopting a cat and are there to find out more about how to do that and see some of our cats. Staff hoped the decorations would draw everyone to the birthday girl and entice them to ask about what kind of home she was looking for and in an ideal world, offer to take her home,” Nikki shared.

The decorations were set and the birthday girl was brought front and center.

Everyone was ready for a great day that might end in a forever home for Monique.

But, nobody came to Monique’s birthday bash…

The humans were disappointed, and Monique could have said, “It’s my purr-ty and I’ll cry if I want to”. But the gentle tab seemed to take it all in stride. She did receive lots of love and snuggles from staff and volunteers and attention is one of a cat’s favorite things.

“She got a LOT of cheek rubs that day,” according to Nikki.

Had this cat lover known about your party, Monique, I would have been there!

How about any of you, fellow cat lovers? Would you have been there too?

Let’s all wish her the greatest day ever!

Going Forever Home?

“Her birthday and Valentine’s Day may now have passed, but it’s not too late to give Monique her dream gift of a lovely new home,” shared Chrissie Grindrod, Battersea’s Cattery Team Leader.

Such true words and it looks like that dream gift may be coming soon.
