When Nancy Cowen moved into the Bramley House nursing home in Westcott, Dorking, Surrey in the UK, she thought she’d have to give up her beloved cat of eight years.

Cleo had been found as a stray, and Nancy had taken her in. The two were wonderful companions until Nancy had to relocate. Because Cleo couldn’t join her, the kitty was to stay with a neighbor.

But Cleo had other plans. Two weeks after Nancy moved, the courageous cat showed up at the Bramley House.

But at first, no one realized she had a friend inside.

“About two weeks after Nancy moved in this cat just started turning up and sleeping on the benches outside the home. It was very strange,” employee Laura Costello told the Dorking and Leatherhead Advertiser.

The staff thought she was a stray, and fed her over the next couple of weeks. But after awhile, the mystery was solved.

“One of the other carers [on staff] picked her up one day and Nancy said, ‘That cat looks like my cat,'” the employee continued in the story. “Then she said ‘But my cat lost part of her tail in a traffic accident.’ The carer looked at the cat she was holding and realised part of its tail was missing….Then Nancy’s sister came round and said she definitely was Cleo.”

Lucky for the kitty, her persistence paid off! She was able to move back in with Nancy, where she belongs.

Now, the two are happily together again! Who says that dogs are the only loyal companions?
